Four days after the rape of the female doctor near Cyberabad, the four accused in the case were killed in an encounter on Friday morning as they tried to escape from the crime scene. Hours after the encounter, top police officers arrived at the scene. According to police, the accused were taken to the crime scene at 3:30 pm when they attempted to flee and were shot by policemen. Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Sunday announced the setting up of a fast-track court for speedy trial and assured the family of the deceased all possible help. His minister-son Katie Rama Rao demanded immediate punishment for the four accused.
Citing nationwide outrage over the Hyderabad rape-murder case, there was a mention on social media ranging from immediate arrest to death sentence to four arrested people. People said that even in cases like terrorist attack in Mumbai, it took a long time to execute the death penalty. The Cyberabad police has appealed to the media not to telecast the programs continuously on the murder of the woman and to avoid the use of her name as she suggested the hashtag Justice for Direct in social media. The case is reminiscent of the encounter of the accused in the 2008 Andhra Pradesh acid attack in the past when the police arrested three youths who were killed in the encounter hours after they were arrested.
