Critically acclaimed Filmmaker Anubhav Sinha took a sly dig at Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP and Bhojpuri film actor Ravi Kishan on Tuesday for ignoring vulgarity shown in Bhojpuri film when the BJP MP raised the issue of drug menace in Bollywood and urged the government to take strict action against those involved in alleged drug trafficking while speaking at ongoing monsoon session in Lok Sabha.

This comes at the time when the Narcotics Control Bureau is investigating the alleged drug use and supply in the industry that had surfaced during a probe into the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput.

Responding to Ravi Kishan’s comments, Anubhav Sinha took to Twitter and questioned Ravi Kishan for his silence about Bhojpuri cinema ‘spreading poison of vulgarity.’ “I am grateful to Ravi Kishan that the drug usage in Bollywood was discussed in the Parliament. However, there should also be a discussion on the Bhojpuri industry as the language and the art has been misused to feed the poison of vulgarity to an entire generation for the past 30 years,” Sinha tweeted in Hindi.

“Please tag Ravi Bhai and make him aware of the vulgar Bhojpuri songs. It is his responsibility as he is in Parliament because of the Bhojpuri cinema. He will certainly raise his voice for the right cause,” he wrote in another tweet.

On Tuesday, Veteran actress and Rajya Sabha MP Jaya Bachchan slammed those trying to defame the entire film industry amid ongoing drug row, following Ravi Kishan’s remarks. She had given a zero hour notice in the Upper House over an alleged conspiracy to defame the film industry. Bachchan stated that people working in the entertainment industry are ‘flogged’ by social media.

‘Article 15’ filmmaker Sinha lauded Samajwadi Party MP Jaya Bachchan for showing the courage and speaking up for the film industry.

Backing her views, Sinha tweeted in Hindi “Jayaji ko sadar pranam karta hoon. Jinko pata nahi wo dekh lein, Reedh ki haddi aise dikhti hai (I pay my respect to Jayaji. Those who do not know must watch this. This is what a spine looks like).”

Several other Bollywood celebrities including Taapsee Pannu, Dia Mirza, Genelia Deshmukh Sonam Kapoor Ahuja, Zoya Akhtar and Farhan Akhtar also appreciated the veteran actress’s speech in the Rajya Sabha.
