Indian Army Chief General Bipin Rawat retired from his post on Tuesday. He is being made India’s first CDS i.e. Chief of Defense Staff. At the same time, General Manoj Mukund Narwane has taken over as the new Chief of Army Staff. Narwane took over as the Chief of Army Staff in the presence of General Bipin Rawat on Tuesday. He has become the 28th Army Chief of the country.
Earlier, General Manoj Mukund Narwane was the Deputy Chief of the Indian Army. General Bipin Rawat’s term was going to end on Tuesday. A few days ago, the Ministry of Defense announced the name of Narwane as the new army chief.
Narwane has served in the Indian Army for more than 37 years. He formerly led Infantry Brigade and National Rifle Battalion. He was made the Deputy Chief of the Indian Army in the month of July itself.
General Bipin Rawat will take charge of CDS first in the new year
General Bipin Rawat has retired as the Chief of the Indian Army on Tuesday. Now in the new year i.e. on January 1, he will take charge of the country’s first CDS i.e. Chief of Defense Staff.
As soon as CDS is formed, General Bipin Rawat will have the right to order the three armies – the Army, the Air Force and the Navy. CDS will also have the responsibility to create synergy between the three armies.
As CDS General Bipin Rawat will report directly to the Prime Minister. Recently, the Central Government had approved the post of CDS and announced the responsibility of this post to a four-star officer. After which it decided to make General Bipin Rawat the first CDS.
