Indian players lit up the Cologne Boxing World Cup in Germany. Indian boxers won 9 medals including 3 gold. Women boxers Simranjit Kaur Bath (60 kg) and Manisha Moun (57 kg) were also among the gold winners. Among the Indian male boxers, Amit Panghal won the gold medal without landing in the ring in the final.

India won three gold, two silver and four bronze medals in this competition. He finished second in the medal tally (medal table). Manisha defeated compatriot Sakshi 3–2, while Simranjit Kaur Bath won the title by defeating Germany’s Maya Kilihans 4–1. Simranjit Kaur Baatth, who won a bronze medal at the AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships, also did well in the semi-finals. The 25-year-old Indian woman boxer used sharp footwork to defeat her German rival in the final.

In the final of the women’s (57 kg) category, 19-year-old Sakshi Chaudhary tried hard to beat 22-year-old Manisha Moun. He also overtook Manisha in the first round. However, Manisha gained momentum in the second round and did not give Sakshi any chance to take the lead again. He won the match 3–2 before the match ended.

On Saturday, Amit Panghal (52 kg) won the gold medal in the men’s category. He received a walkover in the finals. Veteran Satish Kumar (over 91kg) had to be content with the silver medal, as he was unable to hit the ring to play the final due to injury. Sonia Lather (57 kg), Pooja Rani (75 kg) Gaurav Solanki (57 kg) and Mohammad Hasamuddin (57 kg) won bronze medals in their respective weight categories.

Apart from hosts Germany and India, the boxers from Belgium, Croatia, Denmark, France, Moldova, Netherlands, Poland and Ukraine also participated in this competition. Union Sports Minister Kiran Rijiju has also congratulated the Indian boxers on this success.
