Jamia JMI University Protest Over CAA

On Sunday, violence and agitation took place in many surrounding areas, including Delhi’s Jamia Nagar, on the Citizenship Amendment Act of the Narendra Modi government. On Sunday evening, the protesters set many buses and trains on fire. The protesters also include Jamia University students and local people. According to Delhi Police, more than 6 policemen are injured. Delhi Police has released all the detained students. After leaving the students, the protest outside the Delhi Police headquarters ended in the early morning on Monday.

Protesters protesting NRC and Citizenship Act also vandalized on Sunday afternoon. The police used lathi-charge to control the situation, leaving tear gas shells. In view of this matter, the Jamia administration said that the students of the university are not involved in the protest on Sunday. 11 students have suffered serious injuries in Jamia demonstration, while 24 students have received minor injuries. After the violence, heavy police has been deployed in Jamia area. The situation is under control at the moment.

9.25 am – Students of Jamia Mealia University have started leaving the campus. Following the protests yesterday, Jamia Milia University has been closed till 5 January.

9.10 am – A student of Jamia University takes off his shirt and sits in front of the university gate. The student demands that action should be taken against the Delhi Police regarding the case which took place yesterday.

8.20 am – Due to the protests that took place yesterday, the Delhi Traffic Police released the guidelines. According to this, the road number 13A coming from Sarita Vihar towards Kalindi Kunj has been closed.

7.52 am – Entry and exit gate of all the stations of Delhi Metro has been opened. Services have been normalized at all stations. Earlier, services were stopped at many metro stations including Sukhdev Vihar, Pragati Maidan, Jamia University.

5.50 am- According to Delhi Police, several policemen including South East District DCP, Additional DCP (South), 2 Assistant Police Commissioners, 5 Station House Officers and Inspector have been injured in the violence and stone pelting yesterday.

5.45 am- Delhi Police PRO MS Randhawa says that all the detained students have been released from Kalkaji and New Friends Colony.

1.50 pm – Delhi Minorities Commission has issued an order. Accordingly, the Kalkaji SHO has been ordered to release the injured students of Jamia University and be admitted for treatment without delay.
