SS 2020 Fendi Ramp : How was it different?

Silvia Venturini Fendi, the new creative director of Fendi and also the last member of the Fendi family working for the brand debuted into the brand’s women’s ready to wear line after the demise of the legendary Karl Lagerfeld earlier this year. The show had a ‘rising sun’ as the backdrop of Fendi’s SS’20 doing full justice with the theme of her collection ‘new beginnings’ as she describes it to be “a solar mood” – the collection surely gives a blissful feeling most associated with the long summer days and afternoons spent in the sun. With the addictive beats of the soundtrack “Let the Sunshine In” creating the vibe of the entire place – the stage saw an incoming of a series of looks resembling a Miami Broadwalk back in the 1970’s.

The palette was a sunny one consisting of pale pink, honey, deep shades of rust and orange, a bit of khaki green here and there with yellow acid brights. Mostly in patterns of floral and checkered, there were High waisted shorts, sheer skin tight blouses that had body contours subtly peekaboo-ing just like their patent peekaboo handbags, there were slouchy worker’s jackets (slightly oversized for letting the summer breeze in), wide legged trousers, free flowing coats with a certain amount of plastic (Fendi doing her own share of sustainability), big tote bags for a summery day at the beach, Fendi’s one and only baguette bags, all the looks ending with a constant of fine mesh crew length
socks and block heel sandals in different colours. To add to the legendary house’s originality, huge sunglasses were used with swinging chandelier earrings bearing the brand’s logo.

The make up consisted of think space buns, noughties on both the sides, delightfully messed up ponytails and a subtle sprinkling of glitter under the eye, overall, playful, easy to recreate and with the nostalgic addition of reminding us of our go-to look for school time parties. The star studded show featured Bella Hadid, Gigi Hadid, Kendall Jenner, Kaia Gerber (surely making Crawford a proud mom) and Mona Tougaard.
The show came off very well with Venturini Fendi being able to deliver amply of her predecessor’s department, that must have made Karl really happy, wherever he maybe!
