In the wake of a massive surge in coronavirus infections United Arab Emirates (UAE), Australia, Oman, Canada and New Zealand joined the list of countries that have imposed travel restrictions on India, either completely barring or restricting flights from the country.

UAE’s The National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority and the General Civil Aviation Authority temporarily suspended all flights from India and the entry of transit passengers for a period of 10 days from April 25. However, Cargo flights between the two sides were exempted from the ban. In the past 14 days, People who transited through India will also be barred from entering the UAE. This travel ban will be reviewed after 10 days as per UAE’s government announcement.

However, this ban will not apply to UAE nationals, diplomatic passport holders, official delegations, and “golden residency” visa holders. But they will be required to take preventive measures such as a 10-day quarantine and an RT-PCR test at the airport.

Singapore has also tightened restrictions for travelers from India on Thursday to prevent the spread of Covid-19 in its crowded workers’ dormitories. This move will impact the construction and marine sectors that employ a large number of people from India and other countries as per Officials.

After UAE & Singapore, Oman has also barred the entry of travelers from India, Pakistan and Bangladesh on Wednesday. This will be in effect from April 24th. Oman’s Supreme Committee announced that the ban will also be applicable to travelers who transited through these Asian countries in the last 14 days.

Australia as well has decided to put restrictions to reduce the number of flights from India after registering a spike in incoming travelers testing positive. People coming from high-risk countries like India will also have to test negative for Covid-19 72 hours before boarding a flight to Australia.

The US, the UK and New Zealand have imposed fresh restrictions on travelers from India or barred in the backdrop of a massive spike in coronavirus cases. UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson and Japan Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga have also called off planned visits to India because of the Covid-19 situation.

Meanwhile, Canada also announced that it would ban all flights from India and Pakistan for 30 days due to the growing wave of COVID-19 cases in these countries. The leader of Canada’s most populous province, in his first public appearance since announcing the restrictions, said his government had moved too fast with the measures.
