In The Name Of Freedom, Films Insult Hindu Deities Says Satish Poonia
The newly released Amazon Prime Video’s political drama ‘Tandav’ is amidst controversies and objections. On Monday, BJP’s Rajasthan unit chief Satish Poonia condemning the indecent depiction of Hindu Gods and Goddesses says: “India’s democracy gives freedom of expression, but in the name of liberty, many films insult Hindu deities, which is highly objectionable.”
Talking about how the series is trying to sensationalize in the country via cheap popularity he said that he thinks there is a need for government intervention in this case. Such cases should not be repeated in the future. It is a clear attempt to spread hatred based on different caste, religion and creed via the web series. It is creating a divide among people.
“It has come to my knowledge that indecent comments have been made on Hindu Gods and Goddesses including Lord Shiva and the Prime Minister in the Tandav web series. I strongly condemn these acts. The indecent slogans raised in JNU related to freedom have been depicted in the series” said Poonia.
Poonia feels that such people are spreading sensation because they are jealous of the public welfare schemes introduced by the Modi government. They are insulting the democracy of the country by insulting the public representatives. It’s an insult to the elected government and Hindu deities, which is highly condemnable.
Two complaints have been registered against the web series- one by a policeman in Lucknow and another by Ram Kadam in Mumbai on Sunday. The complaint alleged “insults to religious sentiments” and “insulted Hindu Gods and Goddesses”.
The makers have issued an “unconditional” apology on Monday that they “take cognizance of concerns and unconditionally apologize. The apology statement said that any offense was intentional and the series was “a work of fiction (with) any resemblance to acts and persons and events purely coincidental.”
The outrage has made Mumbai police increase the security outside the two of Amazon India’s office in the city and the residence of Saif Ali Khan. After Up cop’s complaint, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath warned those named to “be prepared to pay the price”.
The series, which stars Saif Ali Khan, Dimple Kapadia and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, released on Friday was received with unenthusiastic reviews. The series quickly triggered a political row and outrage which is seen as a warning and renewed calls to regulate the OTT content of both Netflix and Amazon Prime.
