13 patients died due to fire in Vijay Vallabh Kovid Hospital in Virar of Palghar district of Maharashtra. Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed grief over the incident of fire at Kovid Hospital in Palghar, Maharashtra. The Prime Minister has given the approval of the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund to give ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh to the relatives of the dead and Rs 50,000 to the seriously injured.

According to the report, other patients are being shifted to the nearest hospitals. Officials said that the incident happened in Vijay Vallabh Hospital. Earlier on April 21, at least 22 people were killed in a hospital in Nashik, Maharashtra due to the leaking of an oxygen tank. Around 90 patients were admitted to the hospital at the time of the incident.

Vivekananda Kadam, head of the District Disaster Control Cell, told PTI that the incident occurred after the explosion in the air conditioning unit of the ICU. He said that the firefighters of Vasai Virar Municipal Corporation extinguished the flames within an hour. The incident comes two days after 24 people died due to leaks affecting oxygen supply due to leaks in the main storage tank of a hospital in Nashik city of Maharashtra.

On 26 March, ten people died after a fire broke out in a hospital located inside the Dreams Mall in Mumbai. More than 70 Coronavirus patients had to be evacuated from the medical facility. Maharashtra is the most affected state of the coronavirus in the country. On Thursday, 67,103 new cases were registered in Maharashtra.

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh expressed grief over the deaths in the incident of fire at Kovid Hospital in Palghar, Maharashtra and expressed his condolences to the bereaved families. The Defense Minister wished the injured to recover soon.
