Mustard continues to sell higher than MSP despite recorded production

Despite the record production of mustard in the country this year, farmers are getting a much higher price than the minimum support price (MSP). At present, the price of mustard in the country is Rs 5,800 per quintal, while the mustard MSP is Rs 4,650 per year. In such a situation, the farmers are getting about Rs 1,200 per quintal above the MSP. Traders said that the price of mustard prices is rising due to the high prices of all edible oils in the international market and the possibility of a fall in the price is less despite the further thrust.

Oil traders said that imported oil is running expensive, so the consumption of mustard oil has increased. One of the main reasons for the increasing consumption of mustard oil is its purity. Oil market experts said that due to expensive imported oil, there is no scope for adulteration of mustard oil. Therefore, consumers are sure to get pure mustard oil.

According to the second advance production estimate of the crop year 2020-21 released by the central government last month, mustard production in the country this year is 104.27 lakh tonnes. However, according to the assessment made by the edible oil industry organization Central Organization for Oil Industry and Trade (COOIT) and Mustard Oil Producers Association of India (MOPA), the production of mustard in the country this year is 89.50 lakh tonnes.
